Daniel Campbell is an Arkansas-based filmmaker with over a decade of experience in television, film, and commercial production. He began his career in production and casting on acclaimed features including Jeff Nichols’s Mud and Joe Berlinger’s Paradise Lost, before making his directorial debut with the award-winning short film Antiquities (2009). The film screened at Academy Award–qualifying festivals and earned him recognition as The Oxford American’s “Filmmaker of the Month.”
Campbell went on to direct two additional award-winning shorts before making his feature debut with Antiquities, co-written with longtime collaborator Graham Gordy. The film premiered in the Comedy Vanguard section of the Austin Film Festival and was distributed by The Orchard.
With Gordy, Campbell adapted Netflix’s Last Chance U into a television pilot for Courteney Cox’s production company. The duo is currently developing Monster City for Sandbox Productions, based on the book by Michael Arntfield, with the pair set to co-showrun the series. He most recently completed the screenplay for his next feature, Crooked Mouth, a deeply personal coming-of-age drama inspired by his Arkansas upbringing, with Octavia Spencer attached to star and produce.
In addition to his narrative work, Campbell has collaborated with Rockhouse Motion on commercial campaigns for clients including Cabela’s and Thor Industries, and has directed branded content for YouTube Space, AARP, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
