Jim Fairchild

composer, musician

Jim Fairchild is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and arranger. A member of the seminal band Grandaddy since
1995 and a member of Modest Mouse for 15 years, he stepped away from touring in 2021 to concentrate on his
first love of composing.

Jim founded Small Isles in 2017 to create imagined scores for imaginary films.

Jim scored Common Ground (Amazon Pictures) for Rebecca and Josh Tickell which received the Human/
Nature Award from 2023’s Tribeca Film festival, and Groundswell (Amazon Pictures), which received the Golden Globes Prize for Documentary at this years Cannes Film Festival.

Jim’s other composing credits include Peacock's "Southern Fried Lies" and Lifetime’s “The Life and Murder
of Nicole Brown Simpson”. He co-scored Hallmark’s “#XMAS” for the channel’s slate of Holiday movies in 2022 as well Alison Rich’s 2022 Sundance Select short “Training Wheels”.Most recently, Jim scored Josh Loeb’s directorial debut, “In Spite Of Ourselves”.

Small Isles debut LP, “The Valley, The Mountains, The Sea'' was released on AKP/Dangerbird in June 2021 and Jim wrote it by dreaming it would serve as a moodboard and score for a new film by Ang Lee and Rick Moody. A spiritual heir to their much-beloved 1997 picture “The Ice Storm”.

Small Isles has gone on to release music steadily since and has begun performing live.
