As part of the Arkansas Filmmaker Spotlight Series, the ACS screened Dr. Jesse Burks' shorts ONE PLEASE and CURED and a preview screening of ODD HAPPENINGS IN A TINY TENT. Inspired by the magical work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Dr. Burks elected to screen MICMACS along with his short films.
Dr. Jesse Burks is a native of Benton, Arkansas, and is a reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgeon. In his spare time, he makes short films. In 2014, he wrote and directed ONE PLEASE here in Arkansas. It was nominated for the Best Narrative Short at both Slamdance and the Tribeca Film Festival and now has over 10 million views on Youtube. In 2016, Dr. Burks wrote and directed CURED with fellow Arkansas filmmaker Eric England - "A young woman, possessed by a demonic entity, encounters a doctor with a very unusual method for performing exorcisms. Most recently, Dr. Burks wrote and directed ODD HAPPENINGS IN A TINY TENT, only recently completed in 2019.
As part of the Arkansas Filmmaker Spotlight Series, the ACS will screen his short films One Please and Cured as well as a "friends-and-family preview screening" of Odd Happenings in a Tiny Tent. The mission of the Arkansas Filmmaker Spotlight Series is to not only highlight the work of the local talent in Arkansas but also allow them the opportunity to screen the films that inspired their work and share their inspirations with their community. Inspired by the magical work of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Dr. Burks elected to screen Micmacs along with his short films.
