Filmland Filmmaking Workshop

How to Shape Your Film with Sound Design

AMFA Lecture Hall
through
Saturday, August 15, 2026
Workshop Starts: 11:45am
Doors Open: 11:15am
Tickets: $15

Sound design is far more than a technical stage of post-production—it is one of filmmaking’s most powerful creative tools. Sound shapes emotion, builds atmosphere, guides attention, defines perspective, and can completely transform the way an audience experiences an image. If visuals tell us what we are seeing, sound often tells us what we should feel.

In this hands-on workshop, Emmy-nominated sound designer and supervising sound editor Beso Kacharava will guide participants through his creative process using real examples from his recent projects. He will demonstrate how a film’s sonic arc can be developed alongside its visual language, allowing sound to become an essential part of the storytelling from the earliest creative stages.

Through practical demonstrations and close analysis of selected scenes, participants will explore how sound can establish character, space, rhythm, tension, and emotion—sometimes through bold sonic choices and sometimes through the careful use of silence.

Designed for filmmakers, sound professionals, students, and film enthusiasts, the workshop will offer an accessible and inspiring look at sound as half of the cinematic experience. The session will conclude with an audience Q&A.
