Join the Arkansas Cinema Society (ACS) and the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF) for an exclusive screening of SALLY, a documentary about the hidden life of the first woman in space, as part of the Sneak Series. Directed by Cristina Costantini, the film features archival footage of the late astronaut and interviews with her family and colleagues, as well as narration by her partner of 27 years, Tam O'Shaughnessy.
SALLY Synopsis: “Sally Ride became the first American woman to blast off into space, but beneath her unflappable composure, she carried a secret. Revealing the romance and sacrifices of their 27 years together, Sally’s life partner, Tam O’Shaughnessy, tells the full story for the first time of this complicated and iconic astronaut.” SALLY is directed by Emmy® Award-winning filmmaker Cristina Costantini and appears courtesy of National Geographic Documentary Films.
ACS Executive Director Kathryn Tucker said, “At ACS, we love to showcase the achievements of women, and there are few trailblazers quite like Sally Ride. She was an inspiration to a generation of girls to pursue their dreams in STEM fields. But to get to such great heights, she had to jump a lot of hurdles along the way. A film such as SALLY provides a great look at what the world saw and didn’t see in her life. See it first with ACS + HSDFF!”
According to HSDFF Executive Director Ken Jacobson, "We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Arkansas Cinema Society on this special screening of Sally, the exceptional new documentary that tells the untold personal story of the first American woman in space, Sally Ride. This year's event is a wonderful opportunity to join forces with ACS and National Geographic Documentary Films, reprising the success of last year's screening of the brilliant, Oscar-nominated Sugarcane. We are honored, once again, to be able to showcase with ACS the best in new documentaries at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts and its stunning Performing Arts Theater."
