ACS is proud to present Spaceship Earth as part of the Coolidge Corner Theatre's Science on Screen® series! This virtual screening will be followed by a Q&A conversation featuring: Kelley Bass, Chief Executive Officer of the Museum of Discovery; Janet Lanza, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor of Biology at the University of Arkansas; and Jim Winter, Emeritus Research Professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The Q&A will be moderated by Rachel Norris, Biology teacher at Little Rock Central High School.
Spaceship Earth premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2020, and was released in the United States on May 8, 2020, by Neon. Directed by Matt Wolf, the documentary tells the story of Biosphere 2, the 1991 experiment that saw eight individuals spend two years quarantined inside of a self-engineered replica of Earth's ecosystem. The experiment proved to be a controversial one that lends itself to a fascinating story.
“Space travel and off-world colonization has been a big topic the last few years,” said Kathryn Tucker, Executive Director of ACS. “Biosphere 2 was at the forefront of such experimentation. We are excited to show this story of the good and the bad of such a pioneering experiment.”
This will be ACS’s third virtual screening as part of The Coolidge Corner Theatre's Science on Screen® series, with major support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
This virtual event is free, and will take place Wednesday, May 12th, at 6:00 p.m. CST.
