ACS SPONSORING NWA SCREENWRITERS COLLECTIVE SHORT FILM SPRING SHOWCASE

by
Kody Ford

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, the NWA Screenwriters Collective will host a night celebrating their writers’ journeys from script to screen in a spring showcase featuring 6 short films that were written by members of the Collective. This screening is open to the public and is co-sponsored by Arkansas Cinema Society. A panel with the writers and filmmakers will follow the films. Seating starts at 7:00pm in the Pat and Willard Walker Community Room at the Fayetteville Public Library. Tickets are $25.00 each and include snacks and beverages. Space is limited and tickets should be purchased in advance via Venmo (@nwascreenwriterscollective).

“Celebrating with us at the Spring Showcase is a great way to see what our collective is about and a wonderful way to connect with the artistic community in Northwest Arkansas. Our writers are excited to share their experiences!” says Lindley.

This is a fundraising event and all proceeds support a new short film production from the collective, continuing the education and art of film. Current NWA Screenwriters Collective president and award-winning filmmaker Raelyn Munneke is encouraging anyone that is curious about the script to screen process to come to the April 13th event.

Munneke says, “Learning about the path of art on the screen enhances the audience’s film experience.” Munneke is one of the featured writers for the Spring Showcase. Screenwriters’ films also included are: Rastlin Clem, Kate Siengenthaler, Josh Baxter & Clayton Bowman, DZ Rife, and Marc Crandall.

The NWA Screenwriters Collective meets the third Tuesday of every month at The Graduate Hotel in Fayetteville from 7:00-8:30pm. Meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about the art of screenwriting.

At  ACS, we believe that if we provide filmmakers an arena to exhibit their talents, and film enthusiasts a healthy diet of quality programming, we can inspire more Arkansans to make and watch more films. By supporting filmmakers, festivals, theaters and young people interested in filmmaking throughout the state, we hope to create statewide network, pool Arkansas’s resources and be an umbrella organization that feeds all things film. We believe a rising tide lifts all boats.

connect to create.

To be a filmmaker, we have to connect to create. A painter needs a brush, paint and a canvas. A director needs a writer, a cinematographer, a sound mixer, production designer, editor, actors, distributors, and an audience. We cannot do it alone. This art form forces one to collaborate and thus, creates jobs. Filmmaking is unique in the arts in this way. It takes an army.
