CALS Six Bridges Book Festival will be hosting a Wes Anderson-themed event on November 17 and 18 that features five of Anderson’s critically acclaimed and beloved films. The weekend includes a talk with Hendrix College film studies professor Kristi McKim, author of Rushmore, published by BFI Film Classics. This compelling study of the Anderson film offers an urgent corrective to what might be perceived as an endearing portrait of privilege that perpetuates a status quo power. Kristi McKim is a Professor of English and Film and Media Studies at Hendrix College, where she was awarded the Charles S. and Lucile Esmon Shivley Odyssey Professorship, honored as the 2014-15 United Methodist Exemplary Professor, and nominated for the CASE U.S. Professors of the Year Award.
What: The Wes Anderson-themed film festival celebrates the filmmaker and McKim's new book, Rushmore. Themed door prizes will be given away at each film screening. Wes Anderson is an American filmmaker; his films are known for their eccentricity, unique visual and narrative styles, and frequent use of ensemble casts. They often contain themes of grief, loss of innocence, and dysfunctional families.

To be a filmmaker, we have to connect to create. A painter needs a brush, paint and a canvas. A director needs a writer, a cinematographer, a sound mixer, production designer, editor, actors, distributors, and an audience. We cannot do it alone. This art form forces one to collaborate and thus, creates jobs. Filmmaking is unique in the arts in this way. It takes an army.
